Hi Ho Silver!

I’m no Downton Abbey housemaid but on occasion, I have been known to pick up a cloth and polish to keep my silver jewelry and chachkas sparkling and shiny.

Frankly, the job kind of sucks.  I used to struggle with a rag and Silvo but could never do a decent job of getting into the nooks of necklace chains or the crannies of etched silverware.  But I recently found a new way to get it all done lickedy split!

It’s so easy, it’s kind of ridiculous. Here’s what you need:

  1. A bowl or dish with sides
  2. Aluminum foil
  3. 1 tablespoon Salt
  4. 1 tablespoon Baking Soda
  5. Hot water (not out of the tap, but out of a kettle. So good and hot.)

Here’s what you do:

Line the bowl with the foil. Add the salt, baking soda and hot water, enough to cover your jewelry.  Mix.  Place silver inside the bath and swoosh around.  And your silver will be shiny as new in no time flat.

See it to believe it! (Do I sound like I’m hawking something? Can you even own shares in salt?)

Ta da! Be forewarned, the process does give off a bit of a funky smell.

I recommend giving the silver a rinse and drying with a soft cloth. Especially tarnished pieces may need a good wipe too.

Now you can kick back and do something a little more interesting with your time, like organize your closets or clean that kitty litter.
