Time to Get Beach Ready!
Sunshine, heat, ice cream and beach time – YAY! Shorts, skirts, bare legs and bathing suits – BOOH! Ladies (and some gents) may know what I'm talking about. I call it shed dread. But when I saw that Jergens was coming out with a BB cream for the body, I literally stalked the local drugstore waiting for it to come out.
BB or Beauty Balm creams for the face came on the market a few years ago. They’re advertised as an all-in-one product that includes a moisturizer, serum, sunblock, primer and foundation. They do a good job of giving your skin a bit of coverage and smoothing out some of those imperfections.
Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream makes a boatload of promises: hydrating, smoothing, brightening, evening skin tone, visibly firming and minimizing the appearance of imperfections. The effects are supposed to be in full force after five days of use.
They had me at firming. If this cream can smooth out some of those lumpy bits, I was in.
Every morning for the past week, I’ve been smoothing BB Body over my legs. (I’m using the one for medium-deep skin tones.) It goes on like a moisturizer, but it does take a bit to dry, so I do my makeup and hair while it “sets.”
BB Body doesn’t really change the colour of your skin. It contains some DHA, the active ingredient in self-tanners, but not much. This means you don’t have to be very fastidious about the application. The cream does have a slight shimmer to it, which I take is the “make-up” or illuminating component.
Two slight negatives; the scent is quite strong. I’m not a fan of overly scented products. It’s not as off-putting as most self-tanners, but still quite noticeable. Secondly, my white sheets have taken one for Team Leg. Though the product isn’t suppose to rub off, I can see some terra cotta-coloured remains on them.
Do my legs look better after a week of use? I’m going with… um… yes. I think. It’s not a dramatic improvement, but I do think they look a touch smoother and dare I say it, more even-toned and silky.
Part of the improvement may be due to the fact that I’m moisturizing more diligently. And even if it’s the placebo effect, for under $12 a bottle, that’s a pill I’ll happily swallow.
This summer, I’m going with a dose of self-tanner with BB cream layered over top. Beach here I come!
