What To Buy Now
It can be most frustrating time to shop. The sun’s ablazing but fall merchandise is already taking over the shelves. Who's ready to go there yet? Not me!
While the sales racks are thinning, there are still a few deals to be found on summer merchandise. Plus, right now it’s all about nabbing the styles that can carry you through summer and into the brrrs – October, November and December. Here are some key pieces to look for:
No longer a trend, leather has fully entrenched itself in “staple” territory. Yay! Now’s the time to invest in any lighter weight or light coloured pieces, like this spring’s biker jackets. If you can find a black jacket or skirt, even better. This suede Mackage jacket is on sale at Aritzia.
It ain’t cheap so I always like to stock up on discounted cashmere whenever I see it. Right now I’m eyeing sweaters by Zadig and Voltaire. They’re buttery, soft and light enough to wear on a cooler summer day or under a heavier jacket or coat come winter. On sale now at Holt Renfrew.
Slip-ons and white sneakers promise to stay strong come Autumn. You may not find them on sale, but I guarantee if you buy them now you’ll wear them this season and many to come. These fun pony haired slip ons are Steve Madden.
Pointy Toe Pumps
The most classic and classy of shoes, you can rarely go wrong with the pointy toe pump. (Well, wearing them to a garden party or a rodeo may not be the best idea.) If you see them on sale now, grab them. If you’re looking to invest, think metallic. Silver or gold can be worn year-round without looking out of place. These are from Club Monaco.
Another classic shape, perfect for the workplace or accessorized right, for an evening out. I like to go with black, grey, royal blue, red, camel or white for most cross-seasonal appeal. If you do go for a brighter hue, make sure it’s in a heavier fabric. This slimming sheath dress is available at Obakki.
A big shoe for summer, these can still be worn as a dressy evening shoe no matter the season. As with the pointy toe pump, think metallic or neutrals. And yes, animal print is the new neutral. These are on sale at J Crew.
Whether it’s a boyfriend jean, a girlfriend jean, a denim jacket or skirt, distressed denim seems to be sticking around. Check out Zara’s collection for always affordable options.
If you find something in any of grey’s 50 shades, in any of the categories above, grab it. It’s promising to be a strong colour once again. This Carven skirt hits another trend, asymmetrical skirts. It’s on sale online.
In the meantime, let’s enjoy those brights, cottons and linens while we still can!
